About us & contact

Splotter is a small Dutch board game publisher, founded in 1997. We create board- and card games, mostly for a market of gaming enthusiasts. We are famous for making deep, complicated strategy games. The kind of games that can elicit reviews like this:

"I simply cannot wrap my head around how this game is supposed to work. I played with a couple guys who think it's amazing, but I can't keep track of things, and every time I thought I had a strategy it would all come toppling down at the first hint of interaction with other players."

or, alternatively, this:

"If you take the best games ever, maybe you'd have #1 Puerto Rico, #2 El Grande or that stupid Catan game. Well, Roads & Boats is game #0 - the game that can never be beaten."

We're just saying, these games are not for everyone. Plus, we try to make different games each time, and we normally put a twist on things that some people love and others hate. The good thing is, it allows us to make original and unique games that lots of people love. They are very expensive though, because of the small print runs. So play the games before you buy them, if you can.

Splotter these days consists of Jeroen Doumen and Joris Wiersinga. We both work in other companies during the day, and running Splotter and creating new games is our hobby. Since 2016 we have employed Juriaan to help us run things smoothly; operating the webshop, keeping in touch with customers and retailers and providing customer service. If you contact Splotter, he will help you out as quickly as possible!

There used to be two more Splotters, Herman Haverkort and Tamara Jannink. They left the company to focus on their jobs and the rest of their lives again.

We do have lots of other people collaborating and playtesting, and you are most welcome to join us at sessions, which take place in the Netherlands around Leiden and Eindhoven.

Otherwise, you may meet us at the trade fair "SPIEL" in Essen, Germany, in October. If you're reading this and you've never been there, drop all other plans and buy a ticket this year. It's worth it.

Availability and shipping

We produce our games in small quantities, based on the amount of pre-orders in our webshop and through distributors and retailers. We usually produce a bit more copies than the amount of pre-orders, for those who want to wait for reviews. This does mean that the availability of our games is quite limited. It may take several years before we reprint a certain title again after it has sold out completely. But do let us know if you're really eager to see a specific title reprinted.

Games that are currently in stock will usually be shipped out within two weeks after an order is placed.

Any import fees and duties are not covered by Splotter and are the responsibility of the buyer. Check your country's policies regarding importing goods from abroad and regarding trade with the Netherlands/European Union.

Brexit

Since the 1st of January 2023 it is no longer possible to order directly from our webshop if the delivery address is in the United Kingdom. If you are in the UK and wish to get hold of one of our games, we encourage you to contact your favourite local gaming store and ask them to get in touch with us to get a copy for you. If you are unable to find a retailer that stocks our games, contact us and we'll see if we can find a shop that can help you get a copy.
